On 22 March 2023, Lieutenant General Dennis Luyt, Commander of the Royal Netherlands Air Force and Director of the European Air Group (EAG), visited the EAG Headquarters at Royal Air Force High Wycombe. This was the first time, post-pandemic, that the Director has been able to visit the EAG in person since taking command in January 2022.
In a visit, combined with a visit to the RAF’s Air Command, the Director was able to speak to the EAG Permanent Staff and visit the HQ. His morning started with a meeting with the RAF Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston, after which the Director was greeted by the Deputy Director, Général de Brigade Aérienne Xavier Foissey, and welcomed to the EAG.
As it was a special occasion for the EAG, the opportunity to record the event for posterity was taken. The Weather Gods were on side, allowing the photo to be taken outside the HQ and following which the Director signed the EAG Visitors’ Book.
Finally, the director hosted a meeting with the EAG Permanent Staff (PS), during which he highlighted how important the EAG continues to be, not only to himself but to all the other nations involved, highlighting how the importance of delivering solutions to tactical problems, as expressed in our motto: ‘Improving Capability through Interoperability’, means our contribution to air power remains relevant.
As our Director is shortly due to hand over command to his successor, he was presented with a plaque from the EAG to commemorate his time and thank him for his contribution to the EAG and to wish him well in his future endeavours. Overall, it was a memorable day for the EAG and we look forward to welcoming the new Director in the near future.
